Understand how Creatine from CreaSafe® works
Operation
of Creatine
- ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the biological currency of energy that fuells cellular function, metabolism, and mechanical work (such as muscle contraction and exercise).
- On the other hand, and this is very important, ATP resynthesis is only achieved by the “reactivation” of phosphate to ADP thanks to phosphocreatine (PCr).
- This energy is provided by the hydrolysis (breakdown) of ATP into adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and phosphate. Even blinking your eyes depends on ATP.
- This is the “Phosphocreatine System,” and it drives all aspects of cellular energy production and transfer.
This means that PCr provides energy for everything from calcium uptake (sarcoplasmic reticulum – essential for muscle contraction) to muscle action (myofibrils).
Phosphocreatine also feeds the sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) pump (responsible for transporting nutrients to cells) to metabolize fuels such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats (in mitochondria) and transport them to all other components of the cell .
Creatine provides phosphocreatine for the rapid replenishment of ATP.
But it does much more than just replenish ATP.

When creatine concentrations increase in the muscle, all aspects of muscle energy production are improved. Not only does creatine play an intricate role in all cellular functions, but increasing muscle creatine stores actually improves the entire energy production dynamics in muscle cells. With creatine, our muscles contract more efficiently and vigorously, are more resistant to fatigue and the work capacity of your muscles is greatly increased – more repetitions with heavier weight. Better training performance and faster recovery are two very important parameters that guarantee better training results. However, more recent studies confirm that the effects of creatine on muscles are much more powerful than previously understood.
